I was in Slovakia and the Czech Republic last month for a festival called the Author's Reading Month, where Iceland was the guest of honour. I travelled from Brno to Ostrava to Prešov to Bratislava for readings and talks – and generally to have a wonderful time, tasting the beers, the slivovice and the fried cheese. Special shoutout goes out to my moderator – drama professor, opera director and all-around fountain of knowledge, Pavel Drábek, as well as his equally splendid daughter Anastasia „Stasi, like the secret service“ Drábek, both of whom guided me on my journey.
